John Oohoonni Kirkwa, 33, of Arviat, Nunavut found dead in back-lane garbage bin in Winnipeg’s 9th homicide of 2020

Winnipeg Police responded to a report of Suspicious Circumstances outside a residence located in the 200 block of Lansdowne Avenue on March 25th at approximately 7:40pm.

Police said that the homeowner located what appeared to be a body in a trash bin in the back lane. On arrival, police confirmed the body to be a deceased male. No other information is available at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are asking residents to take note of any suspicious activity in the last few days. Homeowners and businesses are asked to check their security cameras for any unusual activity.  Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Update March 28th
Winnipeg police have identified the victim as John Oohoonni Kirkwa, 33, of Arviat, Nunavut. On March 26th detectives from the WPS Homicide Unit arrested two suspects Roberta Ann Jessamine, 48 and Selena Dawn Cross, 46. Both Jessamine and cross have been charged with Second Degree Murder and detained in custody.
