On Friday, August 9, 2024, York Regional police responded to a missing person call of 56-year-old Yuk-Ying Anita MUI .
The family said that they had not seen 56-year-old Yuk-Ying Anita MUI since approximately 9:30 a.m. the morning of August 9th, when she left her home in the area of Baycliffe Road and Warden Avenue. And they had not heard from her since 11:00 am the same day.
Investigators said MUI’s vehicle, a white 2024 Mercedes Benz GLE450, was located in the area of Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue, in the City of Toronto, on Friday afternoon.
Her disappearance are being treated as suspicious.
She is described as:
- Female
- Chinese
- 5’6”, 130 lbs.
- Medium build
- Brown eyes, straight, shoulder-length, black hair
Update: On August 12, OPP officers reported that burned human remains were located in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400, in McDougall Township.
Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have confirmed that the human remains located in the Town of Parry Sound on Monday, August 12, 2024, are those of Yuk-Ying Anita MUI.
Investigators learned that suspects had property belonging to MUI. As a result, three youths have been charged.
A 17-year-old male from Whitby has been charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition x2
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2
- Careless Storage of Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Fraud Under $5,000 x2
A 17-year-old male from Toronto has been charged with:
- Fraud Under $5,000 x3
A 16-year-old male from Toronto has been charged with:
- Fraud Under $5,000
- Failing to Comply with Release Order
- Failing to Comply with Probation
Update August 28th: Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have issued a Canada-wide warrant for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko HU, wanted for First Degree Murder in connection with the disappearance and death of Yuk-Ying Anita MUI.
Investigators have seized two vehicles associated to HU, a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with Ontario licence plate CWHW720 and a grey 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV with Ontario licence plate CTZT172. Investigators also believe this Porsche may have had a different licence plate attached to it on August 9, 2024, or in the days leading up to that date. Update August 29th
York Regional Police said Canada Border Services Agency confirmed 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko Hu, travelled to Hong Kong on Aug.12.
Police said investigators are now set to make an application to Interpol for a red notice.
