The Hamilton 2022 Homicide Victim List is available here
Hamilton police responded to an incident near Tisdale Street and Erie Avenue at approximately 6 pm on March 6th after receiving a report that “a male that had been dumped on the roadway and in medical distress.”
Police located a 39-year-old male lying on the ground, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. The identity of the deceased has been confirmed, however, investigators are still trying to locate the next of kin.
A dark sedan was seen leaving the area. The vehicle has been described as:
- Black or dark-coloured BMW 4-door sedan
- Silver wheel rims

Update March 8th
The victim has been identified as Shane Grenier, 39-years-old, of Hamilton.

Update: On June 29th 2022 Hamilton police announced that they made two arrests for the murder of Shane Grenier.
Owen Nathaniel Silverthorne, 21, of Hamilton, and Janeil Gordon, 21, of Hamilton have both been charged with
· Second Degree Murder
Both Silverthorne and Gordon have been remanded into custody.
Update on October 19th, the Crown withdrew the murder charge against Janeil Gordon. Gordon instead pleaded guilty to attempting to obstruct police, for lying to a homicide detective about a car tied to the murder being stolen.
Ontario Court Justice Amanda Camara said there was no evidence that Janeil Gordon was connected to the murder of Shane Grenier.
Update:
Owen Silverthorne, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on August 21st 2024. The murder charge is expected to be withdrawn.
According to the Hamilton Spectator:
“Evidence, including from cellphones, video and witness statements, suggests Silverthorne was selling drugs on behalf of an unknown dealer, said assistant Crown attorney Bruce Sosa, reading from an agreed statement of facts. Grenier was a drug user who planned to rob a drug dealer and had a BB gun.”
The case returns September 5th for a sentencing hearing.
