On May 9, 2024, Halifax police responded to a call at the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth, where a 69-year-old patient, Allen Nickerson, was assaulted by another patient. Nickerson was immediately transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Mohamed Isaak, 32, was arrested the following day and charged with aggravated assault. Isaak was remanded back to the hospital after his arrest.
Allen Nickerson passed away on July 6, 2024, from complications related to the assault. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service ruled Nickerson’s death a homicide, which led police to upgrade the charges against Isaak to second-degree murder.
Mohamed Isaak is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on January 16, 2025, where he will face the upgraded charge of second-degree murder.
