North Cowichan Duncan RCMP responded to an assault in the area of Trunk Road, Canada Avenue and Government Street on December 24th at approximately 11:00pm.

Police officers arrived and located a man and woman, both of whom were injured. The pair were rushed to hospital where the male victim dies on December 25th. The female victim allegedly suffered a stroke while in hospital, and died December 28th.

Police have not released the identities of the deceased however friends and family have identified the victims as Francois “Fran” Shurie, and Nellie Williams. The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit are treating the deaths as a double homicide.
