Virden RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence located on the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation on November 19th at 6:25pm.

On arrival police located a 30-year-old female suffering from serious injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity and cause of death has not been released.

On November 20, 2022, RCMP charged the 20-year-old male, Ernie Blacksmith, with First Degree Murder.

Virden RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
