The 2023 Edmonton homicide victim list is available here

Edmonton police responded to reports of an injured male in an alley in the area of Allard Boulevard SW and Arthurs Crescent SW on June 12th at approximately 6:30 p.m.

On arrival police located Osama Ali, 21, suffering from serious injuries. Ali was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner determined that Ali died of gunshot wounds. The manner of death is homicide.

On Sept. 12, 2023, Homicide detectives requested a Canada-wide warrant for 22-year-old Joseph Chlala, pictured, for second degree murder in relation to the murder of Mr. Ali. Chlala is described as being 5’5” with a heavy build, with brown hair and green eyes.

Homicide investigators believe Chlala and Ali were known to one another.

Update: On Monday, August 5, 2024, the EPS was notified that Chlala was arrested by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police located in Akwesasne, NY. The Ontario Provincial Police took custody of Chlala after he was deported from the United States.
