Update: Edmonton Police Homicide Section investigates two suspicious deaths downtown

Edmonton police responded to the report of an aggravated assault in the area of 106 Avenue and 98 Street on May 18th at approximately 4:00pm.

On arrival police and paramedics located Hung Trang, 64, injured outside Albert’s Auto Body, where he worked. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries on May 19th. Witnesses identified the 36-year-old male suspect involved, and he was taken into custody.

The investigation led police to a second scene at 105 Avenue and 98 Street, where they located an injured 61-year-old male who pronounced him deceased on scene.

Homicide Section Detectives believe the suspect in custody was involved in both incidents; charges are pending.

Update May 21st,
An autopsy completed on May 20th by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Ban Phuc Hoang, 61, died of blunt force injuries to the head and neck. 

The autopsy for Hung Trang has been scheduled for May 24th.

As a result of the investigation, Justin Bone, 36, has been charged with second-degree murder and robbery in relation to Hoang’s death. Edmonton police said Bone is also charged with a second count of second-degree murder in relation to the death of 64-year-old Hung Trang. Bone was not known to either of the deceased males.
