Coroner’s inquest jury into the 2015 death of Myles Gray after a struggle with police, deem the death a homicide

Myles Gray, 33, died after an altercation with police in a Burnaby, B.C., backyard in August 2015.

According to reports, the extent of his injuries included ruptured testicles, broken voice box, fractured eye socket, and multiple locations of bruising.

The Pathologist who performed the autopsy told the jury that Gray ultimately died of a cardiac arrest complicated by police actions, pointing specifically to “neck compression,” blunt force injuries, the use of pepper spray, forcing Gray onto his stomach, and handcuffing him behind his back.

Three officers that were at the scene said they pepper sprayed Myles Gray, before trying to handcuff him before they were joined by at least four other officers, and then applied force.

After 11 days of testimony, the jury classified his death as a homicide. The inquest heard from 42 witnesses, including 14 Vancouver police officers.
