Convicted murderer Richard Germain and his father found dead in a Laval murder-suicide

Laval police responded to a 911 call for a check on welfare, and a wellness check from the Montreal police department at an apartment on Orly street on February 7th.

On arrival police located 43-year-old Richard Germain and his 67-year-old father deceased. Police have not released the manner of death at this time. A Laval police spokesperson said the death was murder-suicide.

  • In 2000, Germain was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his 15-year-old girlfriend Christelle Lavigne. On June 6, 2002, Richard Germain automatically received a life sentence. Germain was required to serve at least 11 years behind bars before being eligible for parole. He was granted full parole in June 2022.
