Update: Nehemiah Walter John OSLUND charged on the 2024 Calgary death of 23-Year-Old Jelisa Maschki on Nose Creek Pathway

At around 4 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, Calgary police responded to a call at Nose Creek Pathway, near the 1100 block of 32 Avenue N.E., where a passerby discovered a woman in medical distress. The 23-year-old woman, later identified as Jelisa Maschki, was rushed to the hospital in life-threatening condition but unfortunately passed away from her injuries.

An autopsy conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause of death, but investigators now believe that Jelisa’s death resulted from a fatal altercation that occurred on Sunday, December 8, 2024, between 9 and 11 p.m.

Update: Calgary police announced on August 29th 2025, that they have now charged 29-year-old Nehemiah Walter John OSLUND from Cranbrook, B.C., with manslaughter in connection to Jelisa’s death.

OSLUND was arrested in B.C., and efforts are underway to arrange his transfer to Alberta, where his next court appearance will be scheduled.

Investigators believe that OSLUND and Jelisa were strangers to each other, and their brief encounter along the pathway ultimately led to the tragic event.
