Calgary police investigate a fatal shooing of Gurkeert Kalkat in Bankview

Calgary police responded to the 1800 block of 26 Avenue S.W., for multiple reports of gunshots in the area on May 22 at approximately 5:30pm.

Police arrived to find Gurkeert Kalkat suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle, that was parked in the alley behind 26 Avenue S.W. Police believe it was a targeted attack.

The victim was declared deceased at the scene. Police said “Shortly after the shooting, police responded to a vehicle fire located in the 2200 31 Avenue S.W., that is believed to be related.” Witnesses said suspects entered a second vehicle, a blue, four-door car, possibly a Subaru Impreza or Legacy, and fled the scene.

Update May 25
According to CBC.ca, Kalkat is the brother of 23-year-old Jaskeert Kalkat, who was killed outside a Cactus Club Cafe in Burnaby on May 13. Police have said Jaskeert was linked to gang activity.
