On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m., pedestrians in the river valley near 100 Street and 91 Avenue, in the area of Nellie McClung Park, located an injured male.

EMS attended and declared Brandon Lee Cardinal, 30, deceased at the scene.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, Sep. 17, 2024, and revealed that Cardinal died as a result of a gunshot wound. The manner of death is confirmed to be homicide.

Update: On Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, EPS Homicide Section detectives arrested and charged Kellen Lee Carr-Mandrusiak, 20, with second degree murder in relation to Cardinal’s death.
