Alberta RCMP investgate a robbery turned homicide in Edson

Edson RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a business on 50 Street in the town on November 4th at 5:27pm.

Police said an unknown male suspect entered a business with a firearm and attempted to rob the business, during the incident the supect fired a weapon, injuring an employee. The would be robber fled the business leaving the firearm behind and departed in a vehicle. The  vehilce was found unoccupied, a short distance away.

The victim Cordell MacLellan of Edson was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over carriage of the investigation with the assistance of Edson RCMP. Anyone with information relating to this incident that may assist in the investigation to please contact Edson RCMP at 780-723-8822.

Update
RCMP Major Crimes to attempt the arrest of a 21-year-old male on Dec. 11, 2021, at 4:0pm, however the suspect fled into a wooded area north of Highway 16 and east of Highway 32. RCMP Police Dog Service, Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team and Edmonton Police Service Air 1 provided assistance resulting in the arrest of Brent Michael Dumas, 21, of Yellowhead County, Alta at approximately 6:30pm.

Dumas has been charged with First degree murder, Possession of a prohibited firearm, Possession of a firearm contrary to order and Assault with a weapon.
