A 17-year-old has been formally charged in connection with the death of an 18-year-old cyclist who was struck by a vehicle in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough last week.

According to reports, the incident happened on October 30, when 18-year-old Isaac Larrivée was riding his bicycle to class. He was hit at the intersection of Jeanne-Mance and Henri-Bourassa streets by a speeding vehicle suspected of being stolen. Larrivée was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the vehicle was allegedly fleeing from Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers who had attempted to intercept the driver over traffic violations. Following the collision, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle a few streets away and escaped on foot.

A 17-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested.

On Wednesday, November 4th, the teenager appeared in youth court and was formally charged with five offences: manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death, failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death, and fleeing from a peace officer.

The prosecutor’s office has indicated that additional charges could still be laid as the court proceedings continue. Although the accused is being prosecuted in youth court, an adult sentence could reportedly be imposed if convicted.
