Update – Murder charge laid in the house fire that claimed the life of a 5 month old

Emergency crews were called to a residential fire at 1040 Armitage Crescent on August 22 at approximately 4am.

According to Edmonton police there were 8 people living in the home, 6 of them managed to escape the fire with minor injuries.  A mother and her 5 month old son were trapped in the home, but were rescued by fire fighters and transported to hospital.

The 5 month old died in hospital of smoke inhalation, his 29 year old mother remains in critical condition.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate.

Update Charges Laid

Edmonton police arrested Bronson Woycenko, 19, and Jessica Tammerand, 18, without incident on August 25th. Woycenko has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Arson: Disregard for human life and mischief under $5,000. Tammerand is charged with Arson:Disregard for human life, mischief under $5,000.

Police said the fire started as a result of patio furniture set a blaze near the front door.
