Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service were called to a report of a serious assault at a residence in Kasabonika Lake on March 20th.

On arrival police learned that the victim, a 6-year-old girl, had been transported to a medical centre by family, where she died of her injuries. Police have not released the cause of death at this time.

Lanny Edward Mekanak, 21, was arrested and charged with second degree murder.
