Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man in Laval

Laval police responded to 911 reports of gunshots coming from the Le Boutillier Park area on July 13th at approximately 12:45 am.

Emergency crews arrived to find the 36-year-old victim, in his driveway on Phil-Watson St. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Constable Stephanie Beshara said, “This has the appearance of organized crime but we’re still looking at the investigation.”

Police have not released the identity of the victim at this time. More information will be added as it becomes available.

Coby Carter, from Hamilton, identified as Brantford’s latest homicide victim.

Brantford Police Service responded to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Colborne Street West, on July 8th at approximately 3:25 am.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Coby Carter, 22, of Hamilton suffering from significant injury. Despite life-saving efforts, Carter died from his injuries.

Winnipeg Homicide #25 – Christopher Helstrom dies from injuries sustained in an assault.

Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a man assaulted in the hallway of an apartment block the 600 block of Flora Ave, on July 13th at approximately 5:25 pm.

Christopher Helstrom, 27, of Teulon, Manitoba, was found suffering from injuries and was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries. The exact cause of death has not been released at this time.

On July 15th Winnipeg police homicide detectives arrested a suspect in relation to the murder of Helstrom. The suspect remains in custody, however, charges have not been laid at this time.

Toronto Homicide #33 – Dwain Fredrick Adams, Canada Day assault victim dies in hospital.

Toronto paramedics responded to a call for an unconscious man at a restaurant in the area of Queen Street East and Sherbourne Street on July 1st at approximately 10:10pm.

Paramedics arrived to find Dwain Fredrick Adams, 61, with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening and transferred Adams to hospital. On July 6, Dwain Fredrick Adams, 61, of Toronto, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital. 

Patrick Anthony Gayle, 46, charges will be upgraded from Aggravated Assault to Manslaughter. Gayle is scheduled to appear in court at College Park Courts, at 10:00 a.m., courtroom 504 on July 17.

Saskatoon Homicide #9 – 52-year-old woman found dead in an Avenue V South apartment.

Saskatoon police were dispatched to check on the welfare of a woman in an apartment in the 200 block of Avenue V South on July 5th at approximately 4:30 pm.

Police arrived to find a 52-year-old woman deceased in the residence. An autopsy was conducted on July 10th and revealed the death to be a homicide. Police have not released the cause of death or the victim’s identity at this time. CBC News reported that family members confirmed the victim’s identity to be Noreen Victorine Moore.

Kevin William Sim found dead in Strathcona County

Strathcona County RCMP said the body of a man that was found in a field near the intersection of Highway 14 and 21 south of Sherwood Park has been identified as Kevin William Sim, 22.

Sim was last seen on June 30 near Southgate Mall, and his family reported the Edmonton man missing on July 5th.

An autopsy was completed and determined the death of Kevin Sim to be a homicide. The cause of death has not been released and police continue to investigate.

Edmonton Police Homicide Section investigating the death of a 29-year-old man

Edmonton police responded to a report of an injured male outside a residence at 89 Street and 144 Avenue on July 8th at approximately 5:00 am.

Emergency crews arrived to find a 29-year-old man with severe trauma. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for July 10th to determine the identity of the victim and cause of death.

Update July 11th
An autopsy was completed and revealed that the death of Marcus Streete, 29, was caused by multiple stab wounds.

Jamie Smallchild charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of his girlfriend Jessica Cameron.

Rosthern RCMP responded to a complaint of a damaged vehicle found in a wooded area near Beardy’s First Nation, on July 6th at approximately 6:00 am.

Police arrived to find a green van wedged in-between the trees. Inside the vehicle police located Jamie Smallchild, 25, in the drivers seat suffering from minor injuries, and Jessica Cameron, 33, deceased in the passenger seat.

RCMP said they observed inconsistencies between the injuries sustained by the occupants of the vehicle and the damage on the minivan. On July 7th Jamie Smallchild was arrested and charged with second degree murder.
