Update: 2 girls arrested in the beating death of Serena Mckay

Serena Mckay 19, was last seen by her family Saturday night and was reported missing on Sunday April 23 at around 6pm. Police received a report of a body of a woman near a home at around 8pm on April 23. Police arrived to find McKay Dead.

Mckay was beaten to death in Sagkeeng on April 22, by two schoolmates. A video of the beating has been circulating on Facebook.

Sagkeeng Chief Derrick Henderson said that Serena McKay was not from Sagkeeng, though she attended school in Sagkeeng. Police said that she lived in the community of Powerview-Pine Falls, Man.

RCMP said the suspects, age 16 and 17, have been arrested on second degree murder charges and are in custody.

Update January 11th 2018

The two teen girls who were arrested in relation to the death of Serena McKay, both pleaded guilty to manslaughter on January 10th 2018.

Update  August 3, 2018
The 17-year-old girl who was 16 at the time of McKay’s death has been sentenced  to two years in prison and a year of conditional supervision for manslaughter in the  beating death of her schoolmate, Serena McKay.

Another girrl who was also involved in the attack pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 40 months in custody.
