Update two teens charged with manslaughter: 17-year-old Hussein Hamam identified as the victim in a Centretown Fire

Frontline Officers responded to a working fire at 384 Booth St on July 19th just after midnight.

Ottawa Police said once the fire was extinguished, a deceased person was located in the property, which experienced extensive property damage. The victim has been identified as Hussein Hamam, 17 years old of Ottawa.

According to CBC “The property’s owner told CBC a new tenant was about to move in, but the apartment should not have been occupied at the time of the fire.”

The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation with support from the Arson Unit.

Update August 9th
Ottawa police announced that two teens have been arrested and charged with manslaughter, arson causing bodily harm and possession of an incendiary material. The accused’s identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
