Update March 18th 2026
Kamaljit Arora, has been convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of his two youngest children, an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, whose identities remain protected under a publication ban.
The jury also convicted him of attempting to kill his eldest daughter and of strangling his wife, Rama Rani Arora, who survived the incident.
According to the Montreal Gazette, prosecutors argued that Arora had devised a plan to kill his family and then end his own life by ingesting carfentanil after killing his two children. According to the Crown, a struggle broke out with his wife when she discovered the first child’s body and reacted in shock.
The defence, however, presented a different account, claiming that Arora had taken the carfentanil hours before the killings. They suggested this led to a dissociative state in which he had no memory of the events, maintaining that he only regained awareness after emerging from a coma. The Jury did not believe those claims. He has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
Arora has also been sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to murder his daughter and one year for the attack on his wife.
