Body found in Mont St-Hilaire a homicide

Mont St-Hilaire Police responded to report of a body after a passerby on an ATV found the unresponsive victim near the corner of Rouillard Rd. and Authier roads. on July 29th at approximately 7:30 am.

Police said the body was found in a wooded area, about half a kilometer down the road from the Collège Saint-Hilaire high school.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death.

When child becomes human being

  • (1) A child becomes a human being within the meaning of this Act when it has completely proceeded, in a living state, from the body of its mother, whether or not

    • (a) it has breathed;

    • (b) it has an independent circulation; or

    • (c) the navel string is severed.

  • Marginal note:Killing child

    (2) A person commits homicide when he causes injury to a child before or during its birth as a result of which the child dies after becoming a human being.

  • R.S., c. C-34, s. 206.

Montreal police responded to a domestic violence report on the evening of July 23.  On arrival police said the woman’s husband was not at the home and despite police recommendations, the woman didn’t want to leave the home.

Police received another call at approximately 2:30am on July 24th. The caller said a woman had been knocking at her door and was bleeding from the stomach.

The victim Raja Ghazi 33, was 8 months pregnant when she  was allegedly stabbed several times by her husband Sofiane Ghazi, 37.

Raja Ghazi underwent an emergency C-Section in hops of saving the baby. Ghazi’s child died a few hours after delivery. Raja Ghazi survived the stabbing.

Sofiane Ghazi turned himself into police and was charged with first-degree murder of the child and the attempted murder of his wife.

Update: Two men found dead in Brossard park

Longueuil police are investigating after the bodies of two men were found on July 17th at aproximatly 10:50pm by a passerby in the entrance of Brossard’s Centre de plein air, on Chemin des Prairies.

Police said the victims ages 21 and 24 were found near a vehicle that belonged to one of the victims. The two victims were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. Police believe both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Update July 19th

Longueuil police have identified the victims as Mohamed Odeh, 21, and Kevin Paul, 23.

Montreal’s 13th homicide of 2017 – Man shot to death outside a wedding reception

Montreal police responded to several reports of an altercation outside a wedding reception in the borough of Saint-Leonard on July 16th at around 1:15am.

Police and emergency crews arrived at the scene to find a 29 year old man lying on the ground with a serious wound. Despite life saving efforts the victim died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. No arrests have been made at this time.

22 year old man dies after being stabbed in Achille-Fortier Park

Montreal police were called to Achille-Fortier Park at René Lévesque St. and 36th Ave. on July 7th at approximately 6:30 pm on report of a stabbing.

Police located the 22 year old male victim at the scene suffering from serious injuries. Emergency crews rushed the victim to hospital where he died of his injuries a few days later.

Police said a 16 year old has been arrested and is facing a second degree murder charge.

Terrebonne Oasis Residence fire deemed homicide after a 94 year old woman dies

43 seniors were saved from the fire that raged through the Oasis residence in Terrebonne, Que on July 9th at around 1:30am. One victim, a 94 year old woman, suffered severe burns and died in hospital.

Evidence found at the scene has lead police to believe that the fire was deliberately set.

Police questioned a 44 year old man on July 9th but released him the same day. A photo of a man who police believe to be an important piece of this case was released.

Update: Alain Landais, 44, was charged with unpremeditated murder of 94 year old Marcelle Magnan.

 

Illutak Anautak stabs 3 family members to death in Northern Quebec

Three people were murdered and two others injured in a stabbing spree on June 10th in the remote village of Akulivik.

Police said the suspect, Illutak Anautak 19, stabbed his uncle Lucassie Anautak, 36, 12-year-old cousin Patulik Anautak, and Eli Qinuajuak, 32, who is married to one of Illutak’s aunts. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two others were injured at another home but are expected to survive. It is alleged that Anautak broke into 3 homes and was intercepted by police while trying to break into the fourth.

Anautak was shot by police while trying to enter the fourth home, and then fatally shot when he started to approach police.

Katrina Leigh Hazlett charged with the death of her 7 month old daughter

Gatineau police responded to a call of an unresponsive baby on May 29th . The 7 month old baby was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Mother of the baby, Katrina Leigh Hazlett, 28, has been charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death.

Gatineau police said the autopsy revealed “no trace of violence” on the infants body, however the autopsy revealed other information that will help the investigation. The cause of death has not been released at this time.

Montreal’s 11th homicide, is the city’s 6th homicide for the month of May

Montreal police were called to a residence on Roi-René Boulevard on May 27th at 4:30 pm, after a woman called 911 on report of a dead man.

Police said the victim had been shot and was known to police.

a report in La Presse  identified the victim as Mustapha Danach, 30, and said that he had ties to Lebanese mafia and Italian organized crime.

No arrests have been made at this time.
