One arrested in East End Toronto Homicide

A 911 call of a man in distress is now being investigated as a homicide after a man was found dead in the Toronto’s east end.

Police arrived at the apartment building, on Wakunda Pl. at 6:30 am February 7th. The victim a man in his 50’s, who has not been named was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a man was placed in custody on scene, no other details have been released at this time.

 

Tara Lynn Koiter charged with second degree murder after John Liggins stabbing

Brantford police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance in a townhouse complex on Sympatica Crescent at around 3am on February 6th.

Officers found John Liggins 44, suffering from a stab wound in the home. He was rushed to Brantford hospital where he died of his injuries.

Tara Lynn Koiter 32, the victim’s common law partner of 6 years, was arrested at the scene, and has since been charged with second degree murder.

Saed Kaylie died of a stab wound in Etobicoke

17 year old Saed Kaylie is Toronto’s 11th murder of the year. Police were called to the apartment complex at around 7pm on February 3rd.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Saed Kaylie suffering from stab wounds at the back of the building in the West Mall, Rathburn Rd area. Kylie was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peter Khill charged in Hamilton’s third murder of 2016

Around 3:30am on February 4th, Hamilton were called to a home on hwy 56 in Glanbrook on reports of a shooting. The victim did not live at the home, but was apparently trying to steal the homeowner’s truck when he was shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homeowner has been arrested. Police are not releasing the name of the victim or the assailant at this time.

**UPDATE**

The homeowner Peter Khill 26, has been charges with second degree murder. Police still have not released the name of the victim.

**UPDATE**

Police have identified the victim as Jonathon Dwight Styres, 29, of Ohsweken. An autopsy examination is scheduled for Friday.

Sylvia Consuelo Toronto’s tenth homicide victim of 2016

Officers said they responded to a sudden death call January 30th, at an apartment complex on Kendleton Drive around 4:45 a.m after friends of Sylvia Consuelo 31 found her deceased.

An autopsy has been completed, although the cause of death won’t be made public at this time, Consuelo’s death has been declared a homicide.

UPDATE: Police said Consuelo was brutally sexually assaulted, beaten and suffocated to death.

Update November 5th

Najib Amin 26, of Toronto, was arrested on November 3th and charged with the first degree murder of Sylvia Consuelo. Police said Consuelo was brutally sexually assaulted, beaten, then suffocated to death.

 

Tehganni Lewis dies after assault in rooming house

Tehganni Lewis 19 was transported to hospital on January 23 after an assault at a rooming house in Oshawa where he had been staying.

He was transported to a Toronto trauma centre, and was in critical condition until he died on January 30th, 7 days after being brutally beaten.

Update:

Joseph Scott Young, 53, was arrested on a GO bus from Hamilton to Toronto on February 18th.

 

 

Update: Shooting in Toronto’s Chinatown leaves Quinn Taylor & David “Mikey” Eminess dead

Toronto police say five people were shot and two have died in an shooting that happened Sunday January 31st at around 3am at Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street in Chinatown.

Toronto paramedics said they responded to four male victims, including one who was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were transported to hospital, one was in life threatening condition, he has since died, the last victim managed to make his own way to the hospital.

“Some sort of altercation occurred that prompted the shooting but we’re still early in the investigation,” said homicide Det. Mike Carbone.

Toronto paramedics said they responded to four male victims, including one who was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were transported to hospital, including one in life-threatening condition, who has since died, the last victim managed to make his own way to the hospital.

No suspects have been made and police aren’t ruling out gang violence.

Quinn Taylor 29 and  David Eminess 26, have been identified as the two homicide victims. Police do not believe the shooting to be gang related.

On Thursday Feburary 11th, Kyle Sparks-Mackinnon 25, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Update February 21 2017

Jahmal Richardson, 33, of Oakville was arrested on February 16th and charged with two counts of second degree murder, and two counts of attempted murder. Richardson is the suspected leader of the Heart of a King (HOK) gang.  Richardson was also charged in the 2015 death of Charles Shillingford.

Rocco Zito 87 shot dead by his son in-law Domenico Scopelliti

Toronto Police were called to a house for reports of a shooting on Playfair Avenue around 5 p.m. on Friday. Police released the name of the suspect Domenico Scopelliti at 11pm. Scopelliti  turned himself into Toronto police after hearing his name on the news.

Motive for the murder has not been determined.

Toronto police have charged Domenico Scopelliti 51 with first degree murder in the shooting death of his father in-law,  Rocco Zito 87.

Zito was suspected of having ties to the Calabrian mob. In 1980, Rocco Zito was convicted of manslaughter in the beating death of a photographer who apparently was connected to a loan sharking operation.

 

Sukhchain Singh Brar, charged with the murder of his wife Gurpreet K. Brar

Police said the body of Gurpreet K. Brar 37 from Brampton, was found in a burnt out truck on January 31 in Plympton.  Investigators say Gurpreet Brar was a passenger in the vehicle, while one other occupant managed to get away safely.

OPP declared that they have charged Sukhchain Singh Brar, 50, the victims husband, with first degree murder causing death and fire.

Police have not said what happened to cause the fire.
