Cape Breton Police responded to a Prince Street address on August 29th at approximately 11 a.m. after receiving a report of a death.
Police found the body of 54 year old James David Matthews in his apartment. Staff Sgt. Phillip Ross said Thursday he could not release any additional information on the case other than the death of Matthews is being treated as a homicide.

Aaron Shaun Young of New Waterford has been charged with second degree murder in the death of Matthews.
Colchester District RCMP responded to report of a disturbance at a home on Friday August 18th, at 216 Main St. E. in Stewiacke.
Police arrived at the home to find Daniel Handrahan 46, suffering from life threatening injuries. Handrahan was rushed to hospital by paramedics where he died of his injuries.
Cause of death has not been released at this time.
A 17 year old boy was arrested at the scene and placed into police custody, the teen is facing a second degree murder charge for the death of Daniel Handrahan.

Emergency crews were called to a fire at a home nestled in the woods near Clam Harbour Beach on Monday July 24th Just before 9am.
Fire officials said the blaze started in the garage and spread to the attached home. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire before it spread to the woods.
Two people were found dead in the home. Police have confirmed that the deceased are both male and female, however their identities will not be released at this time.
Update Aug 4
Police said the 46-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man died as a result of a murder-suicide. The woman was the murder victim. Police are not looking for any other suspects.
Sydney Mines police said the incident occurred at 7 a.m. July 14 on Oxford Avenue when a vehicle driven by Kimberly O’Dea 37 struck 28 year old Dana Marie Jessome.
Jessome was airlifted to a Halifax hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
O’Dea was arrested by police, without incident, shortly after the accident and is facing a second degree murder charge in the death of her former partner.
On June 16th at around 7:45 pm Halifax Regional Police, including the Patrol, K-9, Emergency Response and Quick Response Units, responded to report of an assault in progress.
Police arrived at the home, located at the 0-100 block of Hastings Drive in Dartmouth to find an injured male with life threatening injuries, he was rushed to hospital and is expected to survive. Police also located an unresponsive woman at the scene. Nadia Gonzales 35, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Calvin Maynard Sparks 23, has been charged with one count of first degree murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation. Samanda Rose Ritch 19, has been charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of recognizance.
Update August 30th
Police arrested Wayne Andrew Bruce, 60, on August 29th 2017 at a Dartmouth home. Bruce is facing a first degree murder charge in the death of Nadia Gonzales

Halifax police responded to report of a female in medical distress, on a path near Albro Lake Road, on June 6th at around 10pm. Police found 18 year old Chelsie Prober in serious condition.
Prober was taken to hospital where she later died. The cause of death has not been released at this time.
A team of volunteers are helping Halifax Regional Police search for evidence.

Halifax police have announced that a youth male who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with second degree murder in relation to the death of Chelsie Prober.

Emergency crews were called to a garage fire in South Rawdon Nova Scotia on April 3rd at around 9:15 am. on arrival the detached garage was fully engulfed, and two children were rescued from the adjacent home unharmed.
A 27 year old woman was found dead in the garage after the fire was extinguished. Police have not revealed the cause of death at this time.
RCMP announced on June 2nd that the death of the woman was a homicide.
Update July 27th
RCMP arrested Joshua Eric Crowell ,27, and charged him with second degree murder in relation to the death of Laura Ross 27. RCMP said the victim and the Accused were known to eachother but did not disclose the relationship.

Bridgewater police responded to report of a woman in medical distress on April 18th on Marie Avenue. On arrival police and paramedics found the 22 year old woman suffering from undisclosed injuries.
The woman was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries.
No further information has been released and the investigation is still in it’s early stages.
Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a 911 call to a home on O’Brien Street in Gardiner Mines on Tuesday April 18th at around noon.
Police arrived at the home to find 33 year old Sara Beth Ann Forbes dead. Police arrested Richard Wayne McNeil, 40, at the scene, the home he shared with Forbes and their young son according to TheCape Breton Post.
MacNiel has been charged with first degree murder
Nova Scotia RCMP were called to a home in Upper Big Tracadie, just after 6pm on January 3rd, after receiving a call for assistance. Police arrived to find Lionel Desmond 33, his 52 year old mother Brenda Desmond, his wife Shanna Desmond 31, and their 10 year old daughter Aaliyah all dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Police said the call came from Shanna Desmond’s aunt who had gone to the home Tuesday night. RCMP said Lionel Desmond’s injuries looked to have been self inflicted and there was no sign of forced entry at the home.
