Montreal police officer charged with manslaughter in the death of Jean-Pierre Bony

On March 31, 2016, Jean-Pierre Bony 46 was allegedly shot in the head with a rubber bullet while trying to escape through a second story window during a drug raid at a building in North Montreal.

Bony was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

On May 24th 2017, Quebec’s Crown prosecutor’s office has decided to charge Officer Christian Gilbert of the Montreal Police with manslaughter.

Fatal Stabbing near Lionel-Groulx métro station is Montreal’s 8th Homicide

Police said the stabbing happened at around 2:40 am near the  Lionel-Groulx métro station at the intersection of St-Jacques Street and Greene Avenue on May 16th.

The 49 year old victim was rushed to hospital where he died later that morning.

Police have not released many details at this time. More information will be added as it becomes available.

Anthony St-Jean Lamothe stabbed to death in Montreal

Montreal police were called to the intersection near Sherbrooke St. and St. Laurent Blvd on May 14th just after 3am on report of a stabbing.

According to reports Anthony St-Jean Lamothe 24  made it to nearby Clark St. before being found by emergency crews. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Kenneth Oteng 25 turned himself into police on March 16th and is facing a first-degree murder charge.

The death of Anthony St-Jean Lamothe is the 7th Montreal homicide this year. The Montreal Homicide Victims List is available here.

Montreal house fire death deemed homicide

Emergency crews were called to a building on St-Louis St. near Sixth Ave at 4:20am, May 7th on report of a fire.

Fire fighters found a person after the fire was extinguished. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the identity of the victim and the cause of death.

Homicide crews have taken over the case.

Suspected Gangster Nicola Di Marco found dead

The body of Nicola Di Marco 47, was found on March 18th at around 8:30am by a passerby in Montreal’s Anjou borough.

Di Marco was known to police is suspected of having ties to the Montreal Mafia.

The cause of death has not been released however the signs of violence on the body lead police to investigate Di Marco’s death as a homicide.

Update: Woman found dead in Montreal Health Centre

Montreal police are investigating the 4th homicide of 2017 after a woman in her 60’s was found dead at a health and social services centre on Dufresne Street.

Police received the 911 call at 1:30 pm on February 20th reporting a woman in medical distress.  Despite life saving efforts the woman was pronounced dead at the Centre d’Hébergement Emilie-Gamelin.

Police have arrested a 55 year old man at the scene.

Police have confirmed the suspect Michel Cadotte, is the spouse of the victim, Jocelyne Lizotte who suffered from Alzheimer’s.

Eugenia Tofan Bunu charged with the death of her newborn baby 6 months later

Montreal police were called to Eugenia Tofan Bunu’s  home, on Cumberland Ave., on July 12 by paramedics after they arrived to find a newborn infant that wasn’t breating.

Paramedics revived the infant, and the baby was sent to hospital where it was pronounced dead a few days later.

Tofan Bunu 42, was charged with second degree murder on January 26th.

Montreal police are calling the death of the infant the third murder case of 2017 even though it happened July 2016.

Suspected Drug Dealer Ali Awada Shot to Death in Montreal

Montreal police were called to the area of Sabrevois Street and des Récollets Avenue on January 13th on reports of gunshots at around 9pm.

Police arrived at the scene to find Ali Awada 28, on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Awada is a suspected drug dealer with ties to the Italian Mafia.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The death of Ali Awada is Montreal’s second homicide of 2017. Albert Arsenault, died in 2016 but police have declared his death as the first Montreal homicide of 2017.

Glen Crossley, the man who killed Olympian Victor Davis in the 80’s charged with the September death of Albert Arsenault

Glen Crossley, 46, turned himself in to the Montreal police after a family member told him there was a warrant for his arrest made. Crossley has been accused of manslaughter in the September 2016 death of Albert Arsenault 70.

Arsenault died of a head injury after an incident at a bar on Newman Boulevard in Montreal on September 17.  Arsenault’s wife, Lise Hurtubise, told a Montreal radio station 98.5FM that her husband was pushed and that it was on video.

In 1989 Crossley was charged with manslaughter in the hit and run death of Olympic swimmer Victor Davis 25. Crossley was found guilty and sentenced in 1992.

Montreal Homicide #24: Police investigating the death of a man

Montreal Police are investigating the death of a man on December 4th and if the homicide is connected to the crime spree that happened that same night.

Police found the man at an apartment in the area of 1st Ave. and Ste. Catherine St. Police said the victim is in his 20’s.

The 21 year old man who was arrested in the death of the 49 year old woman, has been linked to the death of the man earlier in the evening.

Frederick Gingras, 21, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder in the slaying of James Jardin, and Chantal Cyr, 49, the woman shot to death in a gas station parking lot.
