On Saturday April 9th two men entered a home in Botwood NS. One man left unharmed, the other was fatally shot by the homeowner during the home invasion.

Police have now charged the homeowner, Gilbert Budgell 53, of Botwood with second-degree murder. Budgell has also been charged with having a firearm while prohibited from doing so.

Update October 12th 2017

Crown attorneys have decided not to proceed with a second-degree murder charge against Budgell. The charges were formally dropped on Thursday October 12th.
