Orillia police and paramedics were called to a Tim Horton parking lot on Westmount Drive North, on July 30th at approximately 7:30am on a report of a man in medical distress.

Police arrived to find Jordan Carter-Bonfield, 25,  in serious condition. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to police Carter-Bonfield was stabbed in an altercation while trying to rob a youth.

Andrew Franklin, 20, of Orillia, who works at the Tim Horton’s where the victim was found has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Police arrested a 17-year-old male who cannot be identified under terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and charged him with second-degree murder in the death of Jordan Carter-Bonfield.

Update April 12th, 2019
Charged against Andrew Franklin has been dismissed. Franklin had been charged with accessory after the fact to murder in relation to the July 30 murder of 25-year-old Jordan Carter-Bonfield. The charge was withdrawn at the Crown’s request.

Update December 3rd, 2020
The youth has been acquitted in the stabbing death of Orillia’s Jordan Carter-Bonfield. According to reports, Justice Vanessa Christie of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario wrote “There is no question that (the youth) caused the death of Jordan Carter-Bonfield at the time and place alleged. The focus of this trial was on whether (the youth) caused that death unlawfully and with the requisite state of mind for second-degree murder,”
