Salaberry-de-Valleyfield Police officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute on October 3rd at approximately 9:30 p.m.

As soon as police arrived at the home gunshots were fired and one officer was struck. The officer sustained a gunshot to the torso, and is in stable condition.

Police were at a standoff with the shooter until the SWAT team forced entry over 4 hours after the initial call. Johanne Chayer  65, was found in the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Chayer was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

the 72 year old man was arrested, however police have not released what charges he may be facing.

Alain Castonguay, 72, Has been charged with first degree murder of his partner Johanne Chayer, and attempted murder of the injured police officer.
