George Prieston killed with a military-style rifle

Winnipeg Police were called to the 600 block of Wellington Avenue on May 12 at around 6:30 pm on reports of a shooting. Police arrived to find George Prieston, 29, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. Police also found Priestons dog also shot.

Prieston was rushed to Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His dog had to be put down due to the extent of his injuries.

Police said a military style assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine was used in the shooting.

**UPDATE**

Raymond Ducharme and Shawn Poitra, both 25, have been charged with the first degree murder of George Prieston. Both have also been charged with cruelty to animals in the death of Prieston’s dog.
