Update: Fatal Hit and Run has been classified as Toronto’s 20th homicide

Toronto police responded to a call for a hit and run that left two people injured at Eglinton Avenue West, west of Black Creek Drive on June 7th at at 4:53am.

Police said it is alleged that 37 year old Dario Humberto Romero was struck by a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep was northbound on Black Creek Drive and made a left turn into the eastbound lanes of Eglinton Avenue West.

Romero died at the scene. A 59 year old woman was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the jeep has been identified as Anthony James Kiss, 31. Kiss has been charged with manslaughter, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, Over 80mgs operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Update July 14th

Anthony Kiss has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Dario Humberto Romero. Kiss alleges that he ran over Romero to save another life. Kiss said Romero was chasing a woman with a knife.
