Update: Toronto Homicide 5 – Man dies of a stab wound in hospital

Toronto police are investigating after a young man was stabbed in the area of Yonge Street and Wellesley Street at approximately 8:00pm on January 29th.

Police tweeted that there were 10 men chasing 1, and that the victim sustained a stab wound. The man was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

Police have identidied the victim as Simon Zerezghi, 25 (pictured below), of no fixed address.

Homicide investigators arrested Colin Defreitas, 25, of Toronto and charged him with first degree murder, attempted murder and failing to comply with a recognizance.

Homicide investigators arrested James Craig, 32, of Toronto, and charged him with first degree murder and attempted murder.

Shooting leaves one dead in Oshawa

Oshawa police responded to report of a shooting on January 28 at approximately 10:20pm on Oxford Street.  Police arrived to find two male victims, both 22 years old.

Both men were rushed to hospital where 22 year old Courtney Browne of Whitby died of his injuries.  Investigators don’t believe that this was a random act.

34 year old woman arrested after her 61 year old mother dies of a stab wound

Montreal police responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at the corner of Guy Bouchard Boulevard and Louis-Hébert Street on January 28th at approximately 11:15pm.

Emergency crews arrived to find the victim lying outside a home, suffering from a stab wound. The 61 year old woman was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries.

The victim’s 34 year old daughter was arrested at the scene.

Update February 6th
Meng Ye 34, has been charged with the first-degree murder of her 61-year-old mother.

This is the first Montreal Homicide of 2018.

Update, Suspect found dead- Hoden Said Found Dead in Brampton

Peel police responded to a report of a deceased female in a basement apartment of a residence in the Kennedy Road and Rutherford Road area on January 27th at approximately 7:20 pm.

Police arrived to find the victim, 30 year old Hoden Said of Brampton, deceased with obvious signs of trauma. Police said witnesses reported a disturbance within the residence at approximately 2:30pm.

Police are looking to speak to the man who left on foot. He has been escribed as male black, between 5’7”and 5’9” in height with a stocky build, wearing a jacket with a fur trimmed collar, the hood of the jacket pulled up over his head, jeans and white running shoes.

A Canada wide warrant has been issued for the arrest of Nicholas Anthony Young pictured below. Young is wanted for the second degree murder of Hoden Said.

Update February 3rd.

On February 2, 2018, Nicholas Young was located deceased in Shelburne Ontario. Police said the death of Young is not suspicious.

Kalwinder Thind dies after breaking up a fight in Vancouver

At approximately 2:30am on January 27th, a fight broke out at the Cabanna club at 1159 Granville Street . 23 year old Kalwinder Thind, an employee of the club, stepped in to beak up the fight when he was injured.

Thind was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. “The evidence suggests that several people have photos and recordings of the events before, during and after this incident. They have uploaded edited footage to various social media sites but have yet to come forward to police,” said Sergeant Robillard.

Deidra Smith and Ghislain Robichaud of St Catharines, found dead near Haliburton

Haliburton OPP were called to the area of Glamor Lake Road in Highlands East Township on Sunday January 21st at approximately 4:45pm.

On January 27th police identified the victims as 35 year old Deidra Ann Smith and 34 year old Ghislain Robichaud, both from St. Catharines. Police are investigating the deaths as a double homicide.

Edmonton Homicide #3 – Suspicious death investigation in Northwest Edmonton

Edmonton police responded to the report of a robbery in the area of 82 Street and 118 Avenue on January 24th at approximately 11pm.

On arrival police located an injured man who was treated and taken to hospital. The victim died of his injuries on January 25th.

Police have not released the name of the victim or cause of death at this time. Homicide detectives have taken over the case.

2 People found dead in a Surrey house fire – Integrated Homicide Investigation Team works with RCMP on the case

Surrey RCMP was called to the 17400 block of 28B Avenue for a report of a house fire on January 25th at approximately 2:45pm.

Two bodies were found in the home in what RCMP are calling suspicious. The cause of death has not been released at this time.

The IHIT has paired with the RCMP to investigate the deaths.
