Home Invasion turns deadly in Samson Cree Nation town-site

Maskwacis RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on March 27th at around 1:50 am in the Samson Town-site.

At the scene, officers found two injured men, and a third man who died of his injuries at the scene.

Police believe the men were victims of a home invasion gone wrong. Anyone with information is asked to call Maskwacis RCMP Detachment at 780-585-3767.

Benedicto George, Edmonton’s 10th homicide

Edmonton police responded to a report of a man’s body being found at a green space in the area of 162 Avenue and 103 Street on March 26th.

Police said the autopsy conducted on March 27th revealed that Benedicto George 25, had died of a gunshot wound.

Heidi Veit murdered by her estranged husband in RM of Buffalo Sask

The body of Heidi Veit was found five kilometres northeast of Wilkie in the RM of Buffalo on March 28th. Police have not released the cause of death. at this time.

Wesley John Veit was arrested on March 27th without incident, and is facing a first degree murder charge in the death of Veit.

Heidi Veit was a mother of two and an education assistant at McLurg School.



Laquan Lyew shot to death in Vaughan

York Regional Police responded to what appeared to be an accident on March 23, 2017, at approximately 1:30 am in the HWY 7 & Jane Street area.

Police arrived to find a BMW crashed into a pole, inside they found 26 year old Laquan Lyew of Ajax. Police further noticed that Lyew was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Manslaughter charge laid in the stabbing death of Jaspreet ‘Jesse’ Dhaliwal

Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the 17000 block of 57th Avenue on March 26th at around 6am. Once at the scene, Police located 36 year old Jaspreet ‘Jesse’ Dhaliwal suffering from a serious stab wound.

Dhaliwal was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police arrested 27 year old Gurtarn ‘Tarn’ Sandhu, 26 at the scene. Sandhu has been charged with Manslaughter in the death of Jaspreet Dhaliwal.

Three dead in Moberly Lake murder suicide

Chetwynd RCMP responded to a disturbance  call from a residence in the Lakeview subdivision in Moberly Lake, BC, on March 17th at around 9:40am.

Police arrived to find Linda Watson, 47, and her daughter Krystina Haggard, 15 dead in their Saulteau First Nation lands home, along with Tony Labrie. Mr. Labrie is a a non-Indigenous man from Quebec.

Police have stated that the deaths were the result of a domestic related incident and all parties were known to each other.

The cause of death will not be released at this time.

Damian Ballantyne, Prince Albert’s first homicide in 2017

Prince Albert police responded to a call for assistance at a home on March 22nd at around 1:20am.  Police arrived at the 300 block of Ninth Street E to assist Parkland Ambulance paramedics with an unresponsive male.

Despite life saving efforts, Damian Ballantyne 34 died from his injuries.

Police arrested two people that were known to Ballantyne, however no charges have been laid.
