Lorenzo Bearspaw’s body found, one suspect fatally shot by police

Lorenzo Bearspaw was reported missing by his sister on January 3rd after he was last seen getting into a vehicle on January 1st at round 2am. The vehicle was found abandoned in a ditch.

RCMP found the body of Bearspaw on January 6th in Stoney Nakoda First Nations near Morley. The cause of death has not been released.

On January 7th RCMP attempted to make three arrests for first degree murder. Police arrested John Stephens 29, without incident. The second suspect 27 year old Ralph Stephens engaged police, and was shot. Stephens died in hospital.

Update – Toronto’s first homicide of 2017: Man dies after being shot in Moss Park

Toronto police were called to the area of Queen St. E. and Sherbourne St on January 8th at around 7:45 am on report of a shooting.

Police found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. Although the victim has been identified his name will not be released until next of kin is identified.

Toronto police have identified the victim as Anthony Earl Smith 41.

Edmonton’s first homicide of 2017: Darrian Trevino-Sabourin

Edmonton Police were called to the area of 103 Street and 45 Avenue, on January 4th on report of an injured man. Police arrived to find Darrian Trevino-Sabourin 21, in serious condition.

Trevino-Sabourin was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. Autopsy reports stated Trevino-Sabourin died of a stab wound.

Update: Tyler Kirton dies of a gunshot wound in Winnipeg’s first homicide of 2017

Winnipeg police were called to the area of Thames Avenue and Watt Street on January 3rd at approximately 9:55pm on report of gunshots.

Police arrived to find Tyler Kirton 25,  lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Update February 10th

A 16 year old has been charged with first degree murder. Police have not said if the accused is male or female.

Military veteran Lionel Desmond allegedly murders his family and himself

Nova Scotia RCMP were called to a home in Upper Big Tracadie, just after 6pm on January 3rd, after receiving a call for assistance. Police arrived to find Lionel Desmond 33, his 52 year old mother Brenda Desmond, his wife Shanna Desmond 31, and their 10 year old daughter Aaliyah all dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police said the call came from Shanna Desmond’s aunt who had gone to the home Tuesday night. RCMP said Lionel Desmond’s injuries looked to have been self inflicted and there was no sign of forced entry at the home.

Érik Dugas found dead in Plaisance

The Sûreté du  Québec said they found the body of 48 year old Érik Dugas in a home on Rue du Parc at around 2pm on December 31st after receiving a call for assistance.

Dugas was pronounced dead at the scene. A suspect was arrested in the evening of December 31st and is facing a first degree murder charge.

Police have not released the cause of death at this time.

Man found dead after street fight in Kamloops

Police were called to the 400 block of Tranquille Road on December 30 at around 3am, on report of an altercation. Police arrived at the scene to find a 42 year old man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kamloops police said the event stemmed from an argument between two people, and that no weapon was used.

No arrests have been made at this time.
