Benjamin Franklin Traverse shot to death in Winnipeg

Winnipeg police were called to the area of 400 block of Pritchard Avenue on November 28th at around 11:30 pm on report of a shooting.

Police arrived to find Benjamin Franklin Traverse 39, suffering from a gunshot wound. Traverse was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries on December 3rd.

Winnipeg police are looking for Michael Tylor Fless, 30 and James Andrew Jewels, 26, in relation to the death of Traverse.

Woman dead in Pointe-aux-Trembles carjacking

Montreal police were called to the Esso gas station on St-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard and Sherbrooke Street at around 11pm on December 4th on report of an incident.

Police arrived to find a 49 year old woman who had been waiting for her daughter to finish her shift at the gas station suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.  The woman was rushed to hospital where she died from her injury.

Police found the victims crashed car a few blocks away. Moments later a 911 call was received by a 64 year old man who had sustained a non life threatening gunshot wound to the leg by a man who demanded his car keys.

After a lengthy chase Longueuil police force arrested the man at the Dix30 shopping center.

Update December 6th

Frederick Gingras, 21, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder in the slaying of Chantal Cyr, 49, and James Jardin a man in his 20’s that was found dead in his apartment.

The death of the woman is the 23rd confirmed homicide of this year. The 2016 Montreal homicide Victim list is available here.

Surrey Police investigating the suspicious death of Greg Lupel

Emergency crews responded to report of an unresponsive man at the Safeway located at 88th Avenue and 152nd Street on November 25th at around 10pm.

Paramedics tried to revive Greg Lupel 27, of no fixed addess however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not ruled out foul play. Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448)

Toronto homicide #63: Stabbing victim pronounced dead in hospital

Toronto Police were called to the area of Finch Avenue West and Hwy. 400 on December 4th at around 3am on report of a stabbing.

Police found a man critically injured at the scene. The man was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

UPDATE: Body found in Kleinburg Ontario

York Regional Police responded to the area of Howland Drive and Nashville Road, west of Highway 27 on report of a body found in a wooded area on December 1st at around 3:30 pm.

Police located the body of a woman, believed to be of middle eastern descent.  The Homicide Team has taken over the investigation.

Update – December 3

Police identified the victim as Dr. Elana Fric Shamji 40. Dr. Elana Fric Shamji, a mother of three who worked as a family physician at the Scarborough Hospital. Shamji was said to have died as a result of strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Police believe that Shamji was murdered in the family’s North York home before being driven to a wooded area and dumped in York Region.

Police have charged her husband, Dr. Mohammed Shamji 40, a prominent neurosurgeon, with first degree murder.

Toronto police have classified the death of Shamji as the 62nd homicide of 2016. The Toronto homicide Victims list is available here.

Update on 2016 homicide, Winnipeg Homicide #21: Theodoros Belayneh shot after leaving a concert

Winnipeg police were called to the area of Donald Street and Stradbrook Avenue on November 26th at around 3am on reports of gunshots.

Police arrived to find two men with injuries consistent with a shooting. The two men were rushed to hospital where Theodoros Belayneh, 32, from Edmonton died of his injuries. The other man is expected to survive.

Winnipeg police re asking anyone who attended the Ace Hood show, and may have photos or videos of the parking lot at Reset Interactive Ultralounge to come forward. Anyone who has photos or videos is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6508.

Update Jan 2 2017
Paige Crossman 24 was charged with first-degree murder of Belayneh, she was also charged with attempted murder, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, drug trafficking and possessing the proceeds of crime.

Update May 12, 2017
Julian Donally Telfer, 30,  was arrested on May 11th and charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Victoria’s first homicide of the year

Victoria police were called to the corner of Douglas and View Streets in front of a McDonalds at around 12:30am Saturday November 26th on report of a stabbing.

Police found the man suffering from a life threatening wound. The man was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery, however he died from his injuries.

Police arrested a 27 year old man, who will remain in custody while the investigation continues.
