Scarborough stabbing takes the life of 15 year old Kareem Deerr

Toronto police were called to the TTC bus platform at The Scarborough Town Centre on September 23 at around 9:20 on report of a stabbing.

The victim, Kareem Deerr 15, was found with a serious stab wound and was rushed to hospital where he died shortly after. Police said the area where the stabbing took place would have been very busy at the time of the stabbing with people getting off work and leaving the mall.

2016 First Six Months Homicide Victim Age Distributions

Here is a histogram of the ages of  homicide victims of both sexes in Canada for the first half of 2016. The peak is in the 20 to 25 age range and generally declines with age. Relatively few victims are under 15.

The histogram for male victims also peaks in the 20 to 25 age range and declines sharply from there.

histmaleFor females there is no peak in the 20-25 range as for males. This could be due to a higher proportion of female domestic homicide victims. There are considerably fewer female homicides than male homicides.

Update: Mannie Spence found dead in Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay police have charged 42 year old Armand Cummings with manslaughter after Mannie Spence, 35,  was found dead on South Court Street on September 15th.

An autopsy was performed, however the cause of death will not be released.

The death of Mannie Spence is the 8th Thunder Bay homicide of 2016.

Update February 23, 2017

Thunder Bay police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Armand Cummings after he missed a court appearance scheduled for February 21. anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or www.tipsubmit.com.

UPDATE- Victims identified. Calgary shooting takes the lives of two

Police responded to reports of a shooting at a home on Redstone Manor at around 8pm on September 20th.

Police arrived to find a 38 year old man dead in the drivers seat of a vehicle in the garage, and his 34 year old common law wife. The woman was rushed to hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police also said a 5 year old boy was found unharmed in the back seat of the vehicle unharmed.

Police believe the attack was targeted.

Police have released the identified the victims as Cuc Lung, 34, and Quang Chi Tran, 38.

Body of Cree Woman Deanna Desjarlais found

The badly decomposed body of Deanna Desjarlais 27 was found in a wooded area without a path leading to it, in Surrey, BC. Police were able to determine the identity of the woman through a thumb print.

Desjarlais family filed a missing persons report late April after she  had travelled to Vernon BC and nobody could get in touch with her.

Police have not released any other details at this time..

UPDATE: Victims identified. Double homicide in East Vancouver

Police were called to a home on Dieppe Place, Saturday September 17th at around 10pm. On arrival police found a man and a woman, both pronounces dead at the scene.

Police have not said who called in the report, and have not released the names of the victims. The cause of death will not be released at this time.

Three people all in their 20’s have been taken into custody in relation to the murders.

UPDATE-September 20

Police have identified the two homicide victims as  Xuan Vanvy Bacao 24, and Samantha Le 29. Police also said there was a 4 year old child hiding during the murders and was uninjured, as well as another person kidnapped from the home. Police rescued the kidnapping victim on September 19th.

Three men have been arrested in connection to the homicide, however no murder charges have been laid. Shamil Ali, Harinam Cox and Gopal Figueredo have all been charged with kidnapping, extortion, unlawful confinement or imprisonment and aggravated assault.
