July 2015 Canadian homicide breakdown

The month of July saw forty five murders. Thirteen of the murders were women, one was an unspecified child, the other thirty four were men.

Sixteen of the murders are still unsolved with no suspects.

8 of the murders were stabbings.

8 were shootings.

7 were violent beatings.

1 arson

21 causes of death have not been released

3 bodies not yet found but determined to be homicide

July’s youngest victim was a 10 month old baby boy, and the oldest victim was an 82 year old man.

Samir Mokhtar Vancouvers 10th homicide of 2015

Samir Mokhtar was shot to death in East Vancouver July 27th, just blocks from the murder scene of Jason Nguyen.

Mokhtar was accused in the killing of 20-year-old Aladdin Ramadan, September 2014, and was on  bail when he was killed, living at his father’s home. 

Investigators are trying to determine whether Monday’s murder, which marked the 10th in Vancouver since the start of the year, was any kind of retaliation.

Vernon Robert Baker, charged with manslaughter in South Indian Lake murder

Leaf Rapids RCMP is investigating the death of a 28-year-old male who’s name has not been released. The victim was found deceased near the South Indian Lake on July 23.

Vernon Robert Baker, 18, has since been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a South Indian Lake man.

Two people charged in the death of Dion Head

Ernest McKay, 20, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of Dion Head, 42 on July 25th.

At around 11:30 am Carrot River RCMP were called to a home with reports of an injured person on the Red Earth First Nation.

Dion Head was deceased upon arrival of RCMP.

Police have not released the cause of death.

Shawn Kapadia murdered according to Homicide Detectives but no body found…

Homicide detectives have evidence that 22 year old Shawn Kapadia was killed on July 5th inside a Toronto apartment. However the real question in this case is where is the body.

At first Shawn Kapadia’s body was believed to have been encased in a block of cement that people in Niagara saw being carried by a backhoe. Police now suspect that block may have been dumped in the Welland Canal.

37 year old grandfather charged with manslaughter

A 37 year old man who was convicted of abusing his son when he was a child, has been charged with manslaughter On Nov 2nd, in the death of his 13-month-old grandson.

The baby was airlifted from Niagara to McMaster hospital with a fatal head injury on July 25 where he dies the next day.

Despite pleading from the baby’s young father and the grandfather’s criminal record, he and his wife were granted custody of the baby in May by the local children’s aid society.

Romeo Ryle arrested in the death of Justin Harvey Chezick

On July 20th at 7:30 am, emergency crews responded to a house fire in the north end of Winnipeg.  Once the fire was extinguished fire fighters located The body of ​Justin Harvey Chezic, 42 years old.

Police haven’t said whether or not Chezick was killed before the fire was started, or by the fire itself.

On Monday July 27th Romeo Ryle, 19, turned himself in to police, two days after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Ryle has since been charged with second degree Murder.
